Keno Variations

Are you a Keno fanatic, but getting a bit tired of the standard version of the game? Good news! There are several variations of keno that will help keep it fresh and exciting to you. Here are some of the most popular alternate keno variations.

All of these variations of keno have certain traits in common: The game starts with buying a ticket. There is a keno board with 80 sets of numbers. Your object is to predict the numbers that the computer will randomly select. You mark these on your keno ticket. The numbers are then selected by the computer. You get a “hit” if one of the numbers matches a number you selected on your card.

5-CARD KENO

One of the issues with many variations of games, such as keno, is that sometimes, those who develop the game expect to pay a licensing fee. That’s the case with 5-Card Keno, but it still has managed to earn a following for itself. 5-Card Keno is an enjoyable variation that throws in elements of poker that you enjoy on situs poker along with the elements of the lottery to create something truly innovative.

5-Card keno is played on a video machine. Players play against the machine. They have three chances in three rounds during the game to increase their bets. To begin, the player chooses and places his bet on a particular hand (the same hands used in the five-card stud). If the hand-selected has a pre-assigned hand ranking or value, then the player has won, and he receives a payout determined by the poker hand’s value. The player then makes a second decision, choosing a second poker hand. The player again wins if the hand has a pre-determined value that was assigned by the house. Finally, the player gets a payout if the two poker hands that he chose have matches.

POWER KENO

This keno variation originated in Australia. The play is mostly like standard keno, but with one change: the game’s “Power” is always based on the 20th number that’s drawn. Whenever a player’s pick matches this 20th number, the amount that he wins is quadrupled. This version is enticing because of the high winnings possible.

SUPER KENO

This game is another version of Power Keno. However, in Super Keno, it’s the first number drawn which, if you match it, quadruples your winnings.

COMBINATION KENO (also called WAY KENO)

In this version, the object is to choose groups of different numbers. Each group has the same amount of numbers in it. For instance, you can select three groups; each of the three groups will have six numbers. The concept here is that it gives you more than one way of winning. Conventional wisdom and probabilities say that you’ll have a better chance of a “hit” in this version of Keno if you also wager the maximum bet amount.

PROGRESSIVE JACKPOT KENO

Although the standard keno machine has a fixed jackpot, this changes with a progressive-jackpot machine. On these, any time a bet is placed but not won, the jackpot gets bigger. To win the whole jackpot, the player must match 10 numbers.
