For example, if you’re first two cards equal 11, then there’s no way you can bust with one more card. You’ll signal that you want to double down by placing an equivalent bet next to your first bet. You are given one more card, regardless of what it is, and your turn is over. Obviously you double your winnings if you get a 10 but if you draw a 2 and the dealer doesn’t bust, you’re stuck with that hand. Insurance bets are designed to protect you in case the dealer has blackjack. This insurance bet means that you have to place an additional bet on top of the bet you’ve placed on your hand. These insurance bets pay 2-1, so if you bet half of the wager you placed on your hand and the dealer does have blackjack, you’ll lose the hand, but your insurance bet pays you double what your insurance bet was.
